Tomorrow, April 29, is District 19's Read Aloud & Poem In Your Pocket Day!! We encourage everyone to participate in this fun and important activity!
Here are some ways to participate:
Record a video of yourself reading a poem or from a book. Then, share the recording on TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, etc.
Schedule time during the day to read aloud from at least one book. It could be a picture book or a chapter from a novel. Choose one of your favorites or a brand new book. You could use a video chat to read to someone in another location!
Have a "buddy reading" session. Kids pair up with a students in another class to partner read. This time can be extra special if students buddy up with someone on a different grade level!
Invite someone special to come read to your class!
Create a Storywalk. Laminate the pages of a book and hang them in the hallway or along an outdoor path. Students and staff can walk along the path and read the book as they go!
Conduct a "Read-Up." This is a fun way to engage the whole school in Read Aloud Day activities! Each class travels up to a room at the next grade level and listens to that teacher read a story aloud. The oldest students in the building go to the youngest grade level teachers.
